April 20, 2010

Dear Volunteers:

Greetings!  The Tesoro Cultural Center’s 10th Annual Indian Market & Powwow is just around the corner and it’s time again to ask for your support. This year’s market and powwow will take place on May 15th and 16th at The Fort in Morrison, Colorado.

The 2010 show will feature renowned Native American artists who will demonstrate and sell their art throughout the weekend. Returning this year are the 2009 Tesoro award winners: Clarence Lee, Best of Show and 1st Place-Jewelry; Earl Plummer, Judges Choice; Terrance Guardipee, 1st Place, Easel Art;  Linda Lucero Fragua, 1st Place- Pottery; and Pahponee, 1st Place- Sculpture.

The 2010 Powwow will host performances by more than 50 Native American dancers and drum groups representing the Southern and Northern Plains Indians. As in past years, the annual Powwow will continue to honor the service of Native Americans in our military. This year’s honoree is Roderick Grove, Southern Ute, Vietnam Veteran, 25th Infantry, 1st Field Forces.

In order for this event to be successful, we need your help. While we would like our volunteers to be available both days, we would love to have your help even if you are only available one day. Volunteers are needed in several areas and enclosed is a list of available positions. We will run two shifts a day: morning (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) and afternoon (1 p.m.-4 p.m.)  Rotating shifts are available if you would like exposure to different aspects of the market. Click here for a list of available positions.

Our volunteers are not only vital to the success of all Tesoro Cultural Center events; they are an integral force in keeping alive a historical and artistic cultural community. In recognition of this contribution, we are pleased to invite all Indian Market & Powwow volunteers to the Members only Patron Party held on Friday, May 14th. The Members Only Patron Party includes entertainment by Native American Flute player, Eric “Many Winds” Herrera, refreshments, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to mingle with artists, preview and purchase award-winning art before the market opens to the public May 15th.

If you will be able to volunteer, please call our office at 303-839-1671 or email cdoran@tesoroculturalcenter.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Tesoro Cultural Center and we hope to hear from you soon!
