Bent’s Old Fort: A Crossroads

Bent’s Old Fort: A Crossroads explores the history of Bent’s Old Fort, an international fur trading post along the Santa Fe Trail from 1833 to 1849. Students will learn about trade economics and the cultural diversity of what is now Southeastern Colorado by touching historical objects, analyzing primary sources, working together on inquiry-based, hands-on activities, and meeting the cast of characters who inhabited Bent’s Old Fort during its years in operation.

The American Indian Tribes of Colorado

The American Indian Tribes of Colorado program creates opportunities for students to explore the history of the American Indian tribes native to the region (namely the Ute, Arapaho and Cheyenne) by analyzing primary source documents (including oral histories, photographs, maps, etc.), handling historical objects, and working together through hands-on, minds-on learning experiences.

Colorado’s Early Hispano Settlers

Tesoro’s Colorado’s Early Hispano Settlers program investigates the arrival of Hispanos to what is presently known as Colorado through the exploration of various inquiry-based activities using both traditional Hispano objects and primary sources that promote critical thinking skills and connection-making between the past, present, and future.

All three of these programs align with Colorado Academic Standards in Social Studies for grades 3-8 and can be modified to fit high school needs as well. We welcome school groups of 25-60 students to join us for this program on weekdays throughout the year. For availability and pricing, please call (303) 839-1671, or fill out the Program Inquiry Form.

Traveling Trunk Shows

Taking the best of our onsite school programs on the road, Tesoro also offers Traveling Trunk Show programs that can come to your classroom! There are three Trunk Shows to choose from (each is a condensed version of Tesoro’s three onsite school programs listed above). Trunk Shows are 1-hour length and bring these various histories alive through hands-on activities, historical objects, and an emphasis on primary source documents. Please call 303-839-1671 for more information.
