Bent’s Old Fort: A Crossroads
Bent’s Old Fort: A Crossroads explores the history of Bent’s Old Fort, an international fur trading post along the Santa Fe Trail from 1833 to 1849. Students will learn about trade economics and the cultural diversity of what is now Southeastern Colorado by touching historical objects, analyzing primary sources, meeting the cast of characters who inhabited Bent’s Old Fort during its years in operation, and working together on inquiry-based, hands-on activities.
The program aligns with Colorado Academic Standards in Social Studies for grades 3-8 and can be modified to fit high school needs as well. We welcome school groups of 25-60 students to join us for this program on weekdays throughout the year.
